Blades of War – Update 1.01

Hi All,

Spent a bit more time on the game. I just wanted to get some things changed about it. The list is below:

  • Users can now create/edit their own map
  • Blades have a turn wait period
  • Blades now always hit (removed the % to Hit option)
  • Re-did the Blade stats
  • Added a Unit Breakdown in the “Help” section
  • Users can now play other player’s maps
  • Updated “How to Play” Guide

I’m going to start advertising and posting the game around and see if I can drive some users to it now.

Blades of War – How to Play

I got a request to make a wiki for the game. While I don’t have time to do that, I thought I did have time to make a quick walk through guide.

New Account

That’s easy, just click the new account button. No registration is needed, you will immediatly start playing as a guest. To save your account click the “save” link next to your gold and score.

Deployment

The first screen you will see is a deployment screen. This is how your Blades will be setup when you enter into battle.

Blades must stay in the first 8 left tiles of the screen. They will tell you “No” if you try to move further.

You can move them as many times as you want. As soon as move is completed the new position is saved.

Lobby

In the lobby, you can fight other players. Click the “Join” icon to join a table.

The first joiner is always player 1.

Going to any other screen will cause you to leave a table. (Quitting or refreshing the screen.)

You will automatically be logged out of the game if you are inactive (not at a table or not chatting) for 2 min.  This saves on my bandwidth costs.

Chatting is available at the bottom. You know how to work that.

Note: When you enter into a battle, if you refresh or leave the screen you will lose the match.

Playing the Computer

To the left of the tables in the Lobby you will see a list of maps. When playing these maps you will be playing the computer. Some of these maps are built by other players.

Battles

Double click the image above to view all the game elements.

Some Additional tips:

You have about 90 seconds per turn
Beating the computer will “raise” your level, which will make the computer harder to beat.

You get some points for beating the computer, but not as much as you would get for beating a player.

You have to click twice to attack a player.

The first time you click to “target” a player the (possible) % to Hit and Damage amount will appear in top right corner.

Refreshing the screen will start the game over.

How the Attack is Calculated:

When an attack is made the following is calculated:

Damage = Attacker’s Damage – Defender’s Armor

If the defender is still alive, then they become the attacker and do damage.

Score

The following contributes to each users score.

+1 for killing an enemy Blade

-1 for losing a friendly Blade

+10 for winning a player match

(no points for winning a computer match, but you do get points for killing computer Blades)

Map Building

You have the ability to modify and edit your own battle field.

Select the “Build” button.

At the bottom of the screen, you can select “Tile Sets” to work with.

You can also choose locations for the 1st and 2nd Player to deploy.

Suggestion: Keep an area of 6 x 6 tiles cleared near deployment points.

Suggestion: Play Test your map often.

After selecting a tile set, the menu will change.

You can select specific tiles to add to the screen.

The “Set Floor Tile” link will set the entire background of the map to the floor tile.

“Set Walkable Area” let’s you create areas where Blades can not walk.

“Clear Map” will remove all tiles from map…becareful there is no un-do for this button.

“Publish”/”Un Publish” makes the map available to other players to play on.

Gold

Currently gold is used to buy tiles for you map.

Blades of War – Beta Testing

Hello All,

I’ve been busy working on a new game. Unfortunately, I have not deiced on a name for it, so for right now I’m just calling it “Tactics”.

It’s a tactical RPG type game. The goal is to maneuver your squad of units around the enemy and try to kill them.

I think the game will do well when there are people available to play one another but till then there is a computer opponent that is available.

Please recall this is a Work in Progress, but I am looking for feedback.

Thanks!
